Researchers star in real life ocean thriller [Australian TV]

Cairns.com.au: Researchers star in real life ocean thriller
WITH a passion for venomous snakes, aggressive sharks and lethal jellyfish, North Queensland scientists, Jamie Seymour and Richard Fitzpatrick, throw their hearts and bodies into saving any dangerous species in need of rescue in a new National Geographic series.

The series on Nat Geo Wild, Aussie Strike Force brings viewers face-to-face with sea snakes, white-tip sharks and crocodiles.

The team then takes viewers into the lab to extract stonefish venom without killing the fish, explain shark feeding patterns and the strategy behind a venomous snake’s bite.

Together they dive into water with a deadly box jellyfish to test a prototype protective suit, swim with venomous sea snakes to collect and create antivenene, and brave crocodiles to capture endangered sawfish.

Mr Fitzpatrick is a qualified marine biologist and Ms Seymour has been researching and working with venomous and dangerous animals for over 20 years and is a senior lecturer at Townsville’s James Cook University.

Their aquarium and lab for Aussie Strike Force is based at the Cairns campus of the James Cook University.

Aussie Strike Force will air on Tuesdays at 7.30pm.

The series will premiere on January 11
