Transocean claims underwater drilling record

World Radio Switzerland: Transocean claims underwater drilling record

Zug-registered oil rig contracter Transocean says it has set a new world record for underwater drilling.

The drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2 reached a depth of 3,100 metres in the ocean off India’s coast.

The rig has a five-year contract there.

Transocean was partly to blame for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico a year ago when the company’s rig exploded.

Eleven crew members died and the resulting offshore spill was the largest in American history.

With a management office based in Geneva, Transocean is one of the largest companies traded on the Swiss stock exchange.
